Abstract
This paper examines the Supreme Court judgment in Indian Young Lawyers Association v. The State of Kerala, which permitted the entry of women of all ages into the Sabarimala temple. It sets out the background of the Sri Ayyappa temple and the custom restricting entry, and analyses the reasoning of the Court on the competing claims of religious freedom and the right to equality.
