An Empirical Study on Victim Compensation under Criminal Justice System

Abstract
Victim compensation under the criminal justice system refers to financial assistance and support provided to victims of crime. This compensation is typically funded by the government and aims to help victims cope with the financial burdens that often result from being a victim of a crime. The specifics of victim compensation programs can vary significantly from one jurisdiction to another, but they generally cover expenses such as medical bills, therapy, funeral costs, lost wages, and other out-of-pocket expenses related to the crime.In India, victim compensation is governed by the Victim Compensation Scheme under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) Amendment Act, 2008 (Section 357-A). This section was specially made for the victims or their dependents who have suffered loss or injury as a result of the crime.
