Abstract

The introduction of reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in India represents a significant development in the country’s affirmative action policies which historically focused on social and educational backwardness. This amendment marks a paradigm shift, extending affirmative action beyond the traditional criteria of caste and tribe to include economic disadvantage sections. This study is an attempt to study the Historical and constitutional development of Economically Weaker Sections reservation within India’s affirmative action policy.
