Abstract

Each rich and developing nation is struggling with the issue of the rising crime rate in the twenty-first century. India, a growing nation, has a broad range of written laws that provide a variety of penalties to punish the offender and lower the crime rate. In India, there are various forms of punishment available, including the death penalty, life in jail, incarceration, fines, etc. Death sentences, often known as the capital punishment or death penalty, are reserved for the most serious offences. This paper provided an outline of the context and history of the death penalty in India, along with some significant rulings from the Supreme Court.
