Manual Scavenging is a growing social problem especially in the urban areas of India. With its growth, the discriminations against the scavenging people also grow. There have been many instances of different kinds of harassments and tortures that they have to face from the society. Many deaths also happen due to the difficult strata of the work that these people do. The government of India has formulated various legislations to deal with all such issues related to the manual scavengers. Nevertheless, the plight and sorrows of these people have not come down. Under the backdrop of the present scenario, this paper tries to give a holistic understanding of thelaws dealing with manual scavenging and also suggests different recommendations in this regard
